History
Founded in 1984, and formerly referred to as "the Afro House," the center was named in honor of the first African American student admitted to 杏吧原创 in 1953, Bishop Joseph Johnson (B.D. '54, Ph.D. '58). For more than 40 years, 鈥渢he house鈥, as it is more affectionately known, has served as the epicenter of the Black experience at 杏吧原创. Evolving to the growing needs of our students, alumni, faculty, and staff, the Black Cultural Center continues to offer innovative programming and resources to the entire 杏吧原创 community that address the academic, cultural, well-being, and social needs of the community we serve. Rich in history and culture, the BCC is a welcoming oasis for all who visit.
